Kelly Long

Director of SOVA Lacrosse

A former University of Delaware Blue Hen, Kelly grew up west of Baltimore in Woodbine, MD and played lacrosse and field hockey at Glenelg High School.  She earned All-County and All-State honors in both before continuing her playing career at UDel. As a Blue Hen, Kelly served as a defensive leader throughout her career from 2002-2005. She was a co-captain and All CAA selection in her senior year and earned her Bachelors in Communications. Kelly has served as both the Varsity Assistant Coach and JV Head Coach at Cape Henry Collegiate.  In Spring 2017, Kelly coached HR Lax Soft Stick and was an evaluator for the Mid Atlantic Virginia National Tournament Team. When she’s not coaching lacrosse, Kelly is busy with SOVA’s biggest fans, Connor and Shane, her two sons.

Carson CropConnor Carson
Connor is a 2017 graduate from ODU where she earned a degree in secondary education with a minor in coaching. This spring, Connor will be the Head Coach of the Cox HS Lacrosse team. Connor played in every game as a midfielder for the Lady Monarchs ending her career with 120 goals and 31 assists (151 points); she also collected 108 ground balls and caused 80 turnovers.  As a senior on the ODU Lacrosse Team, Connor was named team Captain and set the ODU All Time draw control record with 201 career draws. Connor was a member of the 2016 Atlantic Sun Championship Team and a 3 time First Team All Atlantic Sun selection, earning the honors for the 2015, 2016 and 2017 season.

Alyssa Sebesto
Alyssa graduated from Mountain Lakes High School in Mountain Lakes, New Jersey. She ran cross country, and played basketball and lacrosse all 4 years. Alyssa earned 2nd team All County and 1st Team All Group 1 as well as helping her team to a Group 1 State Championship title. Currently, Alyssa is a junior defender on the Old Dominion Women’s Lacrosse Team and is majoring in Criminal Justice.  Alyssa hopes to work in Washington D.C when she graduates.


Sophia Richie
Sophia CropSophia is a native of Midlothian, Virginia where she was a two-sport athlete at Midlothian High School, playing lacrosse and field hockey. During her HS senior year, Sophia was named Conference 20 Player of the Year and helped lead her team to two Greater Richmond League championships, and was named a U.S. Lacrosse Richmond Chapter All-Star. Sophia is currently a junior at Old Dominion University majoring in Speech and Language Pathology. As an attacker for the Old Dominion Women’s Lacrosse Team she tallied 27 goals with 2 assists for the 2016-2017 season.  Sophia plans to graduate with a degree in Speech and Language Pathology and continue on to earn a masters degree.



Buckley CropMaggi Buckley
Maggi is a 2017 graduate from ODU where she earned a degree in Health and Physical education with a minor in coaching. Maggi is now pursing a Masters Degree in Adapted Physical Education and serving as a Volunteer Assistant for the ODU Lacrosse Team. This past Summer, Maggie volunteered at a Sports Camp for the Blind and Visually Impaired in Anchorage, Alaska through Camp Abilities. Maggi started in goal for the Monarchs playing 3,229 minutes throughout her four years while collecting 468 saves sitting fourth in the record books. Maggi was named Team Captain her sophomore and senior year, was part of the All-Tournament team, second team All-Atlantic Sun, and Second team VaSID All-State in 2016.

Laney Dee
laney.pngLaney Dee is a native of Norfolk, Virginia. She is a graduate of Bishop Sullivan Catholic High School in Virginia Beach where she lettered in both field hockey and lacrosse. Laney attended Randolph-Macon College where she played in all 18 games as freshman and was a three-year starter at midfield. She scored 48 goals as a Yellow Jacket and tallied over 100 ground balls and 125 draw controls. She served as a team captain her senior year. She coached middle school for a club team in Richmond in 2016 and 2017. Laney received a degree in psychology at RMC. She is currently the head lacrosse coach at First Colonial High School while working towards a degree in Occupational Therapy.

Emily Zimmerman, formerly Gibson, is a native of Jarrettsville, MD where she attended North Harford HS. Emily continued her lacrosse career at Loyola University where she played midfield and specialized in draw controls.  In 2013, Emily was the volunteer assistant for the NCAA Division III Notre Dame University of Maryland women’s lacrosse team. She was also the head coach of the NEMS 2013 club lacrosse team for 6 years. After moving to California, Emily was the volunteer assistant coach for Fresno State University for 3 seasons. Emily is now living in Virginia Beach, and going back to school studying Physical Therapy.


MK Maloney is a native of Gwynedd, PA where she attended Mount Saint Joseph Academy lettering in Lacrosse and Soccer. She is now a Junior on the Old Dominion Women’s Lacrosse team where she plays midfield and defense. MK has played in every game as a Monarch tallying 52 ground balls, 19 draw controls, 38 caused turnovers, 4 goals and 6 assists so far in her career. As a Freshmen, MK was named to the 2017 A-SUN Conference All Freshmen Team leading all freshmen in the conference in ground balls, draw controls and caused turnovers.





Ashley Vellines
SOVA Administrator & Coach

Ashley Vellines, formerly Friend, is a 2007 Graduate of Richmond University where she was a starting midfielder posting a record of 46-17 and winning the Atlantic 10 Conference Championship 3 times.  During her career she racked up 108 draw controls, and finished 5th in school history in goals with 151, 7th in assists with 42, and seventh in points with 193. Vellines earned her Masters Degree in Sport Management from VCU in 2008.

Ashley Waters
SOVA Administrator & Coach

Ashley Waters, formerly Kellogg, is a 2010 Graduate of Old Dominion University where she was a starting attacker and two time All Conference Player in the Colonial Athletic Association.  During her career she scored 128 goals, ranking 4th in school history and finished 8th in school history in points with 152.  Waters earned her Masters Degree in Sports Management from ODU in 2011 and currently serves as one of the Assistant Coaches for the Old Dominion University Women’s Lacrosse Team.
